About
Stoneleigh Cottage
Stoneleigh Cottage is
a fully modernised cottage situated in the quiet, picturesque village
of Bryansford on the outskirts of Newcastle. The cottage has unparalleled
views of the Mountains of Mourne sweeping down to the sea and is
on the boundary of Tollymore Forest Park. Stoneleigh Cottage was
built as part of a terrace of stone cottages circa 1830 and originally
formed part of Lord Roden’s Tollymore Estate. It is now a
grade B2 listed building.
The cottage has recently been fully renovated and modernised. Despite
the addition of full central heating and hot water, together with
other improvements, every effort has been made to retain its historical
charm. The lounge has the original stonewalls and Mourne granite
fireplace still on view. There is a colour TV, CD/Video player and
music centre.
There
is a dining room to the rear with the French doors opening on to
a terrace, which affords breathtaking views of the Mountains of
Mourne. Slieve Donard towers majestically in the background. There
are also panoramic views of the Bay of Dundrum and on a clear day
the Isle of Man is clearly visible.
The kitchen is fully
equipped and appliances include a washing machine, electric hob,
oven, fridge freezer, microwave and dishwasher. The original Belfast
sink has been retained. Next to the kitchen is a downstairs shower
room and toilet.

The final room on the ground floor is the master bedroom, again
with some of the original stonework visible. There is a large double
bed and en suite shower and toilet.
From the kitchen the original stairs lead to the upper floor and
first bedroom. Twin beds nestle under the eaves of the roof. There
is an en suite toilet. Through this bedroom is the second bedroom.
This also has twin beds and the ceiling is again contoured to the
eaves of the roof.

Both bedrooms have the original dormer windows at the front, while
the rear windows have been enlarged to obtain the full benefit of
the stunning views.
The whole cottage exudes an aura of peace, tranquillity and quiet
charm guaranteed to relax even the most stressed of minds.
